The concrete industry together with cement manufacturers has developed low-carbon concrete products to reduce the carbon footprint of the industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
BY Low Carbon Classification\u00ae provides a clear system for demonstrating the low-carbon nature of products and the classification system is constantly expanding to cover more products. Low-carbon concrete meets the same criteria as conventional concrete and the mixes do not contain any new, unknown ingredients \u2013 the furnace slag derived from steel industry, for example, has been used as an admixture in concrete for more than 50 years already.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Any doubts that may exist are often related to new concrete products, but low-carbon concrete is safe to use in all applications. The slower strength development of low-carbon steel can be resolved by the familiar methods in use in winter concreting, and heating does not increase the carbon footprint to any significant degree.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The new carbon footprint requirements for buildings as of the beginning of 2026 will make low-carbon concrete a safe and responsible material for building, both for cast-in-Place projects and precast products.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
