Preface: Concrete ready to take on challenges

The Association of Concrete Industry in Finland is the younger sibling organisation of the Concrete Association of Finland, and will be celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2029.The two Associations have seen and endured economic fluctuations in the construction industry, as well technological advancements, and changes in the society.

The climate change makes quick curbing of emissions from construction necessary. The concrete industry has contributed support to the BY Low Carbon Classification System and introduced several low-carbon products in the market. Key tools in reducing emissions include the lengthening of the service life of durable concrete buildings and the reuse of building materials and prefabricated concrete products.

Concrete is ready to accept its share of responsibility for the economy, environment, and people. The health and safety of the thousands of professionals working with concrete is the priority in the building of sustainable wellbeing.

Welcome new era of concrete

The roots of concrete construction date back thousands of years but concrete in its current form is a relatively new material. Concrete was adopted in wider use in Finland a good one hundred years ago with the start of the production of domestic cement. The Concrete Association of Finland celebrates its 100th anniversary this year.

Both associations representing the concrete sector have experienced economic fluctuations in the construction industry as well as technological advancements. The concrete industry faces the challenges posed by the climate change and has initiated significant efforts to reduce emissions. The lengthening of the service life of durable concrete buildings is significant in reducing emissions. Concrete is ready to accept its share of the responsibility.

Welcome emission cuts and safe tomorrow in the construction industry! Welcome the new era of concrete!
