Housing Management Company Säästökontu in Espoo won the Facade Renovation Project 2021 Award for a successfully implemented facade renovation. The “Taskumattitalo” (hip flask house) in Tapiola, designed by architect Viljo Revell and completed in 1959, got a new facade with plenty of professionally designed and implemented details under the surface.

The facade renovation of Housing Management Company Säästökontu proved to be a comprehensive and complex project. The refurbishment of the building’s facade is an exemplary case of renovation building that produces an end-result looking like nothing has been done. The curtain wall just appears cleaner, looking like it has been washed and yet, it conceals completely new thermal insulation down to the concrete frame as well as new technology.

The original facade cladding consisted of Minerit boards and the horizontal character of the facade was further reinforced by spandrel panels on windows and horizontal wooden grilles. In the renovation project, the facade materials were selected carefully and a novelty fibre cement board was used in a new manner.

The heat recovery system procured by the Housing Management Company and the renovated facade together bring about 60% savings in energy costs.
