The Hatsinanpuisto Park in the Leppävaara area of Espoo won the Environmental Structure of the Year 2024 Award. The Award is given in recognition of high-standard planning and implementation of the built-up environment.

With Hatsinanpuisto Park, the objective was to create a time-proof and diverse environment where both people and nature are valued. The Park project fulfils the goal of the City of Espoo to secure and increase natural diversity.

Completed in 2023, the Park has become a popular venue for lounging and meeting friends and also offers good cycling and walking routes.

The Monikonpuro brook and the habitats near the brook were paid special attention in designing the park, which called for precise cooperation between different experts. It also had to be ensured that the living conditions of sea-trout which spawn in the brook would not be affected.

By moving the course of the brook, plots could be created for offices, commercial facilities and a hotel while ensuring sufficient flooding space for the brook.

Durable concrete structures and natural stone that can withstand the erosion caused by flowing water have been used in the park. All the tall retaining walls and bridges, the foundations of staircases and terraces as well as the large rainwater run-off pipe under the terrace beside the bridge to the property are concrete structures.
