Lauttasaari Church, a remarkable work of architects Marja and Keijo Petäjä, was completed in 1958. The extensive renovation of the Church was carried out respecting the original architecture while improving the functionality of the building and repairing outdated concrete structures.

Significant improvements were made in the functionality, accessibility, and usability of the facilities. For example, two lifts were built in the building as well as an extension to provide indoor connections between the different parts.

The building systems were modernised.

The foundations that had sustained moisture damage were repaired and the drainage was replaced. This was especially important due to the challenges caused to the base slab by the vicinity of bedrock and ground water.

The precast facade panels were mostly in good condition, but some of the panels were replaced due to brittleness caused by moisture.

The original slabs of exposed aggregate concrete in the courtyard were spared and repaired. New, matching slabs were ordered to replace those beyond repair.

The renovation project successfully retained the historical and architectural values of the Church while improving its functionality and durability for the future.
