Espoon uudella Vermonniityn alueella sijaitsevalle, kahden massiivisen pysäköintitalon väliin sijoittuvalle asuinrakennukselle oli tarvetta antaa selkeästi erottuva ja asuinympäristön laatua kohottava ilme. Vahva identiteetti on pitkälti kiinnostavan betonijulkisivun ansiota: sen konstailematon aukotus sekä yksiaineisuus ja -värisyys poikkeavat vahvasti suomalaisen valtavirran asuntoarkkitehtuurin visuaalista hälyä usein suosivista elkeistä.

Vuoden 2021 Kestävä Kivitalo -palkinto jaettiin poikkeuksellisesti kahdelle eri kohteelle. Sekä Tikkurilan kirkon rakentamisessa että Kurjenlinnan kiinteistökehityksessä ja peruskorjauksessa on esteettisesti ja rakenteelliset vaativat ratkaisut tehty tinkimättömällä ammattitaidolla, paikalla rakentamisen perinteitä kunnioittaen.

Veistoksellinen Tikkurilan kirkko ihmisten keskellä

Kestävä Kivitalo 2021 -palkinnon saanut ”Kirkko keskellä kylää” sopii täysin Tikkurilan uuteen kirkkoon. Se sijaitsee vanhan, puretun kirkon paikalla vastapäätä Vantaan kaupungintaloa ja lähellä rautatieasemaa. Arkkitehtitoimisto OOPEAA Office for Peripheral Arhitecturen suunnittelema uusi kirkko vihittiin käyttöön tammikuussa 2021. Kohde on esitelty myös laajasti Betoni 2-2021 lehdessä sivuilla 12–27.
